There are many ancient Jain monuments in Tamil Nadu. Kalugumalai is one of the oldest Jain sites in Tamil Nadu. This site is dated 8th century. The rock cut sculpture was carved during the reign on Pandyan King Parantaka Nedunjadaiya
Kalugumalai Jain sculpture (Jain beds) is dedicated to Jain Teerthankars. There are 98 inscription related to Jain meditants.
This site is protected by Archeology Department of Government of Tamil Nadu.
