Digambar Jain Lal Mandir, Chandni Chowk, Delhi

Photo By Art Poskanzer (Berkeley, USA)

This is the oldest Jain temple of Delhi, built in 1656 during the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. A Jain Army Officer  of the Mughal Army had kept an idol of Jain Teerthankar, which attracted other Jain Army Officers to worship it and afterwards a Jain temple was constructed at the place.

The temple is situated exactly across Red Fort, the main residence of Mughal Emperors.

There is a unique Bird Hospital in the compound of this temple. Thousands of wounded and sick birds are treated at this hospital every year.
